HORTICYCLE
MORE ABOUT HORTICYCLE AND HOW TO ORDER THE BAGS
HORTICYCLE is a plastic recycling scheme set up by Kingsdown Nurseries for our customers and others working in the horticultural industry. Our industry creates a huge amount of plastic waste, and we are constantly asked to take back plant pots and wrapping etc. For a long time we did not have a viable answer but after five years of planning and research we launched HORTICYCLE, a simple solution to a difficult problem. We are proud to be doing our bit (and helping you do yours) towards reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
The scheme is simple, cost effective and very comprehensive with all types of plastic recyled and no sorting required by you. HORTICYCLE bulk bags are available for purchase, which can be filled with plastic waste and then dropped off at Kingsdown Nurseries, or collected by our drivers when we next deliver to you. We will then organise the rest to ensure the plastic is sorted and recycled for reuse.
YOUR QUESTIONS:
How much will the bags cost?
We aim to keep the cost considerably less than the equivalent skip size and there are two size options: (Delivery of the bags is free but the prices shown are excluding VAT).
‘The Standard Bag’ which is 70cm x 70cm x 70cm (external) should fit in an estate car and will hold around 800 2L pots.
£32.25 for 1 bag
£25.75 each for 4-9 bags
£23.50 each for 10+ bags
‘The Bulk Bag’ is 90cm x 90cm x 90cm (External). This will hold around 1800 2L pots.
£55.00 for 1 bag
£47.00 each for 4-9 bags
£44.50 each for 10+ bags
We consider that it should be possible for you to pass these charges on to your client as an environmental charge.
Do I have to wash the pots/bags?
No, we only ask that all loose soil/compost is shaken out of the containers.
Will you take plastic waste if you did not supply the original product?
Yes, there is no restriction on where the goods came from.
Will you take all types of plastic?
Yes, all types of pots, plant trays, compost bags, pallet wrap, shrink wrap, dumpy bags and tree guards/spirals will be accepted. (Pesticide bottles will be accepted if triple rinsed.)
What happens to the plastic?
The plastic waste is compacted and baled and is then sent to a granulation plant, where it starts the next stage of the recycling loop. To clarify, none of the plastic we collect is incinerated – it is all reprocessed and reused.
Will I receive any documentation?
Yes, you will receive a waste transfer note.
